Bruce R. McConkie was called as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on October 12, 1972. Before that he was a member of the First Council of the Seventy from October 6, 1946 to October 12, 1972. He had a notable background in law. He passed away on April 19, 1985.
McConkie was one of the most influential Mormon thought leaders of the 20th century and is most often remembered for his controversial views on race and the priesthood. He was the author of Mormon Doctrine, which underwent numerous revisions due to controversial statements.
In July and September of 2017, MormonLeaks™ published a large set of documents written by McConkie which had never before been published. They are known at The McConkie Papers.
