Thomas S. Monson was called as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on October 4, 1963. He served as a counselor in the First Presidency under Ezra Taft Benson, Howard W. Hunter, and Gordon B. Hinckley spanning from November 10, 1985 until he was called to be President of the Church on February 3, 2008. He passed away on January 2, 2018.
