Members of the Mormon Church are expected to donate money refered to as Fast Offerings. These are monthly donations that are separate from tithing and typically coincide with the monthly ritual of abstaining from food and water for 24 hours (fasting). It is generally understood that the money donated should, at a minimum, represent the amount of money saved by skipping meals for those 24 hours.

Fast Offering funds are generally used to fund the welfare needs of local members.
