The resignation letter of Dee Jay Nelson and the response from the Church.

Dee Jay Nelson claimed to be an Egyptologist with a Ph.D. and came to the conclusion that the papyri from which Joseph Smith translated to obtain the Book of Abraham was not what Smith claimed at all. It was later shown that Nelson's claim to a Ph.D. was false, yet the conclusions he drew about the papyri have been investigated and supported by legitimate Egyptologists. The Mormon Church has publicly recognized this.
